The Aotearoa Transformation Agenda & Plan

The Aotearoa Transformation Agenda & Plan is an industry-wide blue-print to position our industry for a sustainable future.

It’s based on Treasury’s Living Standards Framework, which looks at performance across four capitals:

  • Human capital
  • Social Capital
  • Natural Capital, and
  • Financial Capital.

This is a really important agenda to us, and we’re very passionate about driving its uptake – because we know it’s the right thing to do!

We want to be seen as a forward thinking industry, that directs its own future… rather than an industry dinosaur! We also see this as a key way to engage our tribe of metalheads to innovate successfully and work together for the benefit of our industry overall.

For our member companies, having a document like this gives you a means to promote your contributions to the Living Standards Framework and leverage it in tenders and public relations. It also helps you identify industry priorities for Government support.

We want you to be able to see your own organisation’s contribution to the bigger picture, and create alignment on the important issues across our industry.

It’s comprised of two documents:

  • The Aotearoa Transformation Agenda – This sets out the goals of where the industry needs to get to in order to be prepared for the future
  • The Aotearoa Transformation Plan – This sets out the actions that we’ll need to undertake in order to achieve the Agenda. Goals and plans to achieve these will be set across three timeframes – immediate (now to 12 months), medium term and long-term.

Who is covered?

As this is a voluntary process – our hope is that this Agenda & Plan will cover as much of the steel industry as possible.

Ultimately, those committed will be those who buy into it’s value, and how it can help our industry to work together and have a meaningful impact on the inter-generational wellbeing of Kiwis.

From a materials perspective it covers both carbon and stainless steel, across all steel products and applications. This includes steel roofing, light gauge framing, stainless steel manufacturing, structural steel fabrication and more.

Three categories of participation:

  1. Manufacturer (New Zealand Steel is working on their section now)
  2. Rest of the channel (e.g. rollformers, fabricators, designers etc), and
  3. Industry support organisations (SCNZ, Metals NZ, NZSSDA, MRM, NASH etc).

We’re asking our industry to step up by signing and committing themselves to the Agenda & Plan now.

Be an industry leader and sign and commit to this Agenda and Plan!
